The Farmington Community Band board of directors is pleased to announce
the selection of Damien Crutcher as the Principal Conductor of the FCB
musical organization. The selection of Mr. Crutcher was made after a
year-long search to replace R. Paul Barber who retired in 2003 after 37
years as Conductor of the 70 member concert band.
Damien is currently the Director of Bands and Orchestra at
Southfield-Lathrup High School. He also serves as the Fine Arts and
Communications Academy Chair for the Southfield Public Schools. Under
his direction the Southfield-Lathrup ensembles, including the Lathrup
Symphony Band have performed in San Francisco, Chicago, Nassau, Bahamas,
the White House and at prestigious Carnegie Hall.
Damien is a native Detroiter and is a Cass Technical High School
graduate. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music Education from
Michigan State University, where he studied horn with Douglas Campbell,
conducting with Professor Ken Bloomquist and Dr. Ronnie Wooten. After
teaching in the Oak Park Schools for four years Damien accepted a
fellowship to study conducting at The University of Michigan with noted
conductor H. Robert Reynolds. While in the Master's program at Michigan,
he conducted the University and Campus Bands and made several guest
appearances with The University of Michigan Marching Band and the famed
University of Michigan Symphonic Band.
Damien is eager to begin the FCB's 39th season and has plenty of
exciting musical ideas to try out with the group.
