About The Band ...
The Farmington Community Band, founded in 1966 as the Farmington Civic
Band, has grown from the initial six-member group to encompass today's
eighty-five-member Concert Band, a twenty piece Jazz Band, Clarinet
Choir, Dixieland Band, Flute Ensemble, and several other small
ensembles. The FCB is a non-profit organization sponsored by
individual, business, and corporate patronage as well as grants from
the Farmington Area Arts Commission. The FCB is guided and operated
by a Board of Directors representing all facets of the community. The
Board conducts business at regular quarterly meetings and assigns
the daily operation to the executive board and the professional
staff which includes the conductor, business manager, librarian, and
equipment manager. The FCB is active in the community as a member of the
Farmington Community Arts Council.
The FCB was founded by R. Paul Barber and
his wife Fern. They envisioned a quality musical group that would
not only entertain audiences, but also provide an outlet for this
area's many talented musicians. Membership is open at all times to any
adult, and by audition to qualified high school students. The current
membership represents a wide variety of occupations from many different
communities. Several members have been with the band for over twenty
years!
The FCB has changed its appearance since
its inception, but the goal to provide the Farmington area with
quality musical opportunities for performers and audiences alike has
remained. We thank you for your enthusiasm and financial support that
has allowed us to continue this endeavor for 40 years, and we look
forward to being an important part of the community for many years to
come!
